Promoting the Letchworth Financial Health project at Acorn’s “Pop up in the Park” events.
“Acorn Activities” is funded by the Barnardo’s charity which helps vulnerable children & young people, it supports them, their parents and carers.
In this area its primary goal is to support children aged 2-4 years old living on the Jackmans estate, it strives to:
• raise aspirations
• contribute towards closing the EYFSP (early years foundation stage profile) gap
• increase family engagement and activities available locally
• create a support network for families living in the local area
Acorn provide play services, which includes after school clubs, stay and play groups, school holiday play and leisure opportunities, such as “Pop up in the Park”. These play services help to improve social skills, self-esteem, and confidence, leading to improved independent living skills.
Beth & I attended two events on the Jackmans estate, the first was on the 5th August and the second on the 18th August. Both were really good fun, lots of smiles and laughter, the weather was lovely, and we even managed to pitch up the new Gazebo. Acorn provided some great activities for the little ones, and we contributed with a lucky dip.
There were about twenty to thirty families at each event, and we managed to chat to about half of them. Most people were very positive about the project and felt it would be beneficial to them. We handed out business cards to direct them to our project page for more information and we took contact details from those who expressed an interest in attending our community workshops.
