How Citizens Advice Works

We provide free flexible advice in many local community settings near you. Our offices are in Letchworth and Royston.  Topics covered include welfare benefits; money and credit problems; employment; consumer rights; housing; neighbourhood disputes; education and healthcare; human rights; family and personal issues. 

What do Citizens Advice do?

Every Citizens Advice across the country is an independent charity. Here in North Hertfordshire our highly trained volunteer and paid advisers provide a full range of advice levels tailored to the client’s needs: signposting and assisted information; advice; and specialist advice and casework. 

It's ok to ask for help

Whoever you are, whatever the problem – if something is worrying you and you can’t see a way forward then please get in touch.  Our help is confidential and impartial and we’ll always do our best to support you. 

We are an independent charity

Citizens Advice North Hertfordshire is an independent, local charity reliant on raising our own funds to carry out our work to improve the lives of residents in North Hertfordshire and parts of South Cambridgeshire.

Essential volunteers

Volunteering for Citizens Advice North Herts provides opportunities for people to learn new skills, make new friends, and feel part of a community, as well as gain confidence and improve their wellbeing. For many of our volunteers, it also offers a sense of purpose and satisfaction that comes from knowing they are making a real difference to the lives of local residents. 


We also provide preventative activities such as awareness raising talks and workshops. And we campaign on important issues to make policies and practices better for everyone.

Yes, we can give you general information. The other person would need to register with us for specific tailored advice.

We will contact you by your chosen channel within 3 working days.Please be aware that if we telephone you it may show up as being from an unknown number. 

All our advice is free and confidential. We won’t share your information with anyone else unless you give us permission too.

Yes you can turn up to any of our offices and we will try and help you. We ask that you try and contact us by phone or email first so we can help as many people as possible and save you needing to travel to visit us.

We are a charity. All our advice is free and confidential. If you feel able to support us with a donation at any time then please do but this is not expected and is completely optional.  

We may be able to refer you to a food bank. Please get in touch.

Yes – anyone who lives or works in North Hertfordshire or South Cambridgeshire can use our services.

Unfortunately we can only help people who live or work in North Hertfordshire or South Cambridgeshire.
